Resources :
Timescale : 5 weeks
Year group(s) : Year 7
The activity enabled pupils to :
- Develop an awareness of CAD/CAM
- Adapt a template using CAD drawing tools
- Understand basic electronics theory by learning the function of components used in a simple circuit. (Colour changing L.E.D, resistor, battery and switch)
- Solder accurately and safely to assemble the components in the circuit
How was this supported?
- Introduction to project and main aims
- Demonstration of CAD drawing tools
- Pupils draw out own idea using template
- Laser cut CAD files created by pupils
- Introduction to basic electronic components and their symbols using a simple circuit diagram
- Safe and accurate soldering of components to create circuit
- Assembly of circuit and novelty housing
Pupil Outcomes
Pupils used CAD drawings to adapt a template for the housing of the circuit to create a 'fun' monster profile. They were able to work safely to assemble their components to make the circuit for the night light. The majority of pupils were able to identify and explain the function of the components used in the circuit.
